Little Miracles Team Spotlight – Krista Dolmane

In this employee spotlight series, we catch up with various members of the team to talk about their personal and professional experiences with Little Miracles. This month, a member of our Fundraising team, Vicki O’Brien caught up with Krista Dolmane, our Finance Manager. Krista started working at Little Miracles in March and is based at Head Office.

Vicki: Thanks for talking to me today, Krista. Can you start by telling me a bit about your role as Finance Manager, and what a typical working week looks like for you?

Krista: As a Finance Manager still in training, I work closely with the Head of Finance to oversee the organisation's financial operations. My role is evolving but currently involves assisting with preparation of financial reports, collaborating on managing various project and grant budgets, and ensuring we adhere to charity accounting standards. I'm also learning about health and safety compliance, which includes maintaining up-to-date licenses and ensuring Little Miracles meets all legal requirements.

Vicki: That’s a great overview, how are you finding things so far?

Krista: Each day brings new learning opportunities as I gain a deeper understanding of charity finance management. As a newcomer to the charitable sector, I'm learning something new every day. The transition has been a steep but rewarding learning curve.

Vicki: As a fellow newbie, I have found that too! What do you enjoy most about working at Little Miracles?

Krista: The understanding and flexibility offered by Little Miracles is truly exceptional. As a parent of a child with a disability, finding part-time work in finance that accommodates my needs was challenging. Little Miracles not only understands my situation but actively supports it. This allows me to balance my professional and personal responsibilities effectively.

Vicki: Would you say that’s what inspired you to work here?

Krista. My inspiration stems from a personal experience as a parent of a child with a disability. I've been a part of Little Miracles as a family and volunteer, participating in initiatives like the gift-wrapping campaign at Queensgate shopping centre, that was held during Christmas time. Having the opportunity to work here allows me to support families similar to mine while also receiving support myself. It's the perfect blend of professional growth and personal fulfilment.

Vicki: Right, so you were connected to the charity before you started working here then. Would you mind sharing a little bit about how you became a family of Little Miracles?

Krista. While I can't recall the exact date, I believe we began our journey with Little Miracles around 2018. Our path to Little Miracles was a bit like finding a hidden treasure. As parents of a child with additional needs, we were always on the lookout for supportive communities. One day, during a particularly challenging shopping trip at Queensgate centre, we stumbled upon Little Miracles' sensory room. The initial positive experience prompted us to explore more of the services and support Little Miracles offers, ultimately leading us to become members of Little Miracles.

Vicki: That was fortunate to initially find Little Miracles like that and that it helped open up doors to other services for you. What support have you and your family received from Little Miracles over the years?

Krista: Little Miracles has provided general advice and support during challenging times. They've also offered me practical assistance, such as guidance with DLA applications. The organisation has created a safe, judgment-free space for my child to play and socialise, which has been invaluable for our family.

Vicki: So this support has been really important for you, and your family?

Krista: Yes, the support from Little Miracles has been crucial in reducing feelings of isolation often experienced by parents of children with disabilities. It's provided us with a sense of community and understanding that's difficult to find elsewhere.

Vicki: Thanks Krista, I appreciate you giving me some insight into how Little Miracles has helped you on a professional level as well. Is there anything else you wanted to say before we wrap up?

Krista: Yes, to our generous sponsors and fundraisers. Your contributions make a profound difference in the lives of children and families like mine. The events and programs you support provide crucial opportunities for children to socialise and form friendships, reducing loneliness and isolation. Your support goes beyond just funding – it's creating a more inclusive and understanding community for all of us. Thank you for your continued commitment to Little Miracles.
