Volunteer

Little Miracles would not survive without the help of our fantastic volunteers. We are extremely grateful to everyone who gets involved at Little Miracles and enables us to continue to provide support to our families.

Volunteering is extremely rewarding. You can get involved in a variety of ways, from childcare to administration, or family support to fundraising... to name but a few!

Any help, big or small, is a great help to us!

If you would like to get involved, join a great cause and become part of the Little Miracles' Family, please email volunteering@littlemiraclescharity.org.uk, phone 01733 262226 or complete the form below.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

"You have not lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you" - John Bunyan

Counselling and professional services

Little Miracles provides our families with a variety of support and counselling is an integral part of this.

Students and fully qualified professionals from many backgrounds can build a mutually-beneficial relationship with Little Miracles and the families who use it - gaining valuable experience by supporting families who have children with disabilities, additional needs and life-limiting conditions.  Any counselling student wanting to volunteer with us must be on a minimum of a level 4 course and be registered with BACP - if you are not at this level then please get in contact as we have other roles which may be suitable.

Speak to us if you think your time and skills could benefit families with disabled children, even if your expertise is to provide support in an area that Little Miracles does not typically cover. Little Miracles supports families from all walks of life and in all sorts of situations; chances are that you can be the difference-maker and improve their lives.

Broadly speaking we have opportunities in the following areas:

  • Counselling and bereavement counselling
  • Creative therapies such as play therapy and art therapy
  • Complimentary and alternative therapies such as mindfulness, massage, Reiki and aromatherapy
  • Everyday services that are particularly useful for families with disabled children, like hairdressing catered to children who don't like their hair being cut (perhaps for sensory or social reasons)
  • Employment support
  • Family and mental health support services - we try to help in any way we can, including matters relating to finances, health, education and housing, and general emotional support

You will work closely with either our Head of Families or Counselling Lead. They will support you and allocate appropriate clients once the client has been pre-assessed and the complexity of the case is understood. We work with both adults and children (usually from the age of 8 but in exceptional circumstances from 5), usually on a one-to-one basis but also in groups.

Please be aware that you will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and compulsory training before you are able to see clients. Little Miracles will cover the cost of this check and training, provided that you volunteer for at least 10 hours with us. You will have access to additional training opportunities that will aid your personal and professional development.

We also offer Clinical Supervision to counsellors, please visit our Counselling and Therapies page for more information.

To find out more please email volunteering@littlemiraclescharity.org.uk, call 01733 262226 or click here to apply.

Family Support

Our Family Support team has a wealth of experience in helping families to find their way through the complex and changing world of disability and many members of the team are volunteers.

Broadly speaking we have opportunities in the areas below but are happy to discuss anything which may support the families we work with.

  • Financial entitlements (including supporting families to apply for appropriate benefits)
  • Supporting families to apply for grants for essential equipment
  • Signposting to support
  • Delivering training
  • Advocacy and ensuring the views of families and young people are fully represented.
  • Peer to peer support
  • Online support to families
  • Help with housing issues
  • Emotional support

All of our roles are fully supported by training and an induction process and you will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

To find out more please email volunteering@littlemiraclescharity.org.uk, call 01733 262226 or click here to apply.

Fundraising

Little Miracles relies on our volunteer fundraisers who raise essential income and awareness of the charity.  At all times you will be fully supported, but we would love for you to either get involved with one of our fundraising events or host your own.

To find out more please email fundraising@littlemiraclescharity.org.uk, call 01733 262226 or click here to apply.

Sensory Rooms

Some of our centres are equipped with Sensory Rooms.  Volunteers working within this environment are responsible for playing with children, monitoring the area, showing the young people how to use the sensory equipment and general housekeeping duties.

Little Miracles also operates a sensory room in Peterborough's Queensgate Shopping Centre. It is available for anyone to use, not just our members, and is free of charge (although donations are greatly appreciated).

Our sensory rooms feature activities including interactive floor projectors, bubble tubes and dark dens as well as lots of toys designed to aid development.

The room in Queensgate has a disabled toilet with a changing table and hoist. We also sell a number of sensory items at low prices.  It is open 10 am-4 pm Thursday and Friday and can be found on the ground floor behind the escalator near the old John Lewis.

Queengsate sensory room is fully manned by volunteers - we need people like you to keep these areas open.

To find out more please email volunteering@littlemiraclescharity.org.uk,  call 01733 262226 or click here to apply.

It is important to know all of our roles are fully supported by training and an induction process, and you will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
