Professional and Student Placements

Little Miracles aims to be a one-stop-shop for families to access the support they need, when they need it. Students and professionals from many backgrounds can build a mutually-beneficial relationship with Little Miracles and the families who use it - gaining valuable experience by supporting families who have children with disabilities, additional needs and life-limiting conditions.

Our Childcare, Family Support and Therapies teams are very happy to facilitate volunteering that helps students to achieve their goals, on fixed-term placements (like needing to complete a set amount of client hours) or ongoing volunteering.

Speak to us if you think your time and skills could benefit families with disabled children, even if your expertise is to provide support in an area that Little Miracles does not typically cover. Little Miracles supports families from all walks of life and in all sorts of situations; chances are that you can be the difference-maker and improve their lives.

Broadly speaking, families can currently access:

  • Family support services - we try to help in any way we can, including matters relating to finances, health, education and housing, and general emotional support
  • Counselling and bereavement counselling
  • Creative therapies such as play therapy and art therapy
  • Complimentary and alternative therapies such as mindfulness, massage, Reiki and aromatherapy
  • Everyday services that are particularly useful for families with disabled children, like hairdressing catered to children who don't like their hair being cut (perhaps for sensory or social reasons)
  • Employment support

You will work closely with either our Therapies Lead or Family Support Lead who will support you and allocate you appropriate clients, once the client has been pre-assessed by the relevant Lead and the complexity of the case is understood. We work with both adults and children (from the age of 3), usually one-to-one but also in groups if it's

We would love to hear from you if you are able to speak multiple languages, as we support many families that are not native English speakers.

Please be aware that you will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and an amount of compulsory training before you are able to see clients. Little Miracles will cover the cost of this check and training, provided that you volunteer for at least 10 hours with us. You will have access to additional training opportunities that will aid your personal and professional development.

We are able to facilitate clinical supervision at a room in The Spinney, although Little Miracles is unable to cover the cost of supervision.
